South Africa (Next Media) - South African investigators are trying to gain access to Oscar Pistorius’ mobile phone with the help from Apple officials, which could contain crucial evidence.

According to the Telegraph, the South African police has been trying to access text and WhatsApp messages on the iPhone 5, which was found lying on the bathmat outside the bathroom on the night of the shooting of Reeva Steenkamp. The messages could be vital evidence as they could corroborate or undermine Pistorius’ account of what happened on that night.

Oscar Pistorius claims that he could not remember the passcode needed to log in to the phone. Three senior police officers flew to Apple headquarters in Cupertino,California on February 24 and have secured a meeting with Apple officials on February 27, the Telegraph reported.

Pistorius could face life imprisonment with a minimum of 25 years before parole if convicted of premeditated murder.
