Solar flare eruption could cause aurora displays and radio interference worldwide

Largest sun flare in four years headed for earth, could disrupt tv and radio transmissions.

The sun emitted a powerful "X-class" solar flare on Monday (February 14) the strongest detected in more than four years

Dubbed "The Valentines Day" flare, the electromagnetic pulse could disrupt satellite communications, power grids and radio traffic when it passes the earth late Thursday (February 17).

Solar flares are categorized as X, M and C class disturbances, X being the most powerful.

According to NASA, this solar disturbance is the largest since December 2006.
