Next Media - Germany’s regional operator is set to test a wireless inductive charging technology that enables buses to be charged by underground induction stations. The operator, Rhein-Neckar-Verkehr GmbH (RNV), will test two electric buses embedded with Canadian transportation manufacturer Bombardier's Primove inductive charging technology. The buses will run on the inner city route 63 in Mannheim for a 12-month trial period. The system is comprised of wayside components that are installed under the road’s surface, and onboard components that are fitted onto the vehicle’s frame. The technology allows for a much smaller and lighter battery design, while also extending battery life and reducing energy consumption. Buses can be recharged when they stop to let passengers hop on
