Renowned Polish geophysicist, journalist and filmmaker, Ryszard Czajkowski, is found wandering jungle after going missing 20-hours earlier.
CAMPECHE, CAMPECHE, MEXICO (JANUARY 18, 2011) REUTERS - A renowned Polish geophysicist, journalist and filmmaker was found on Tuesday (January 18) after going missing for 20 hours in the archeological site of Edzna in the Mexican state of Campeche.
Ryszard Czajkowski, 77, who carrying out research for a Polish educational programme together with three colleagues, lost his way after trying to find a vehicle in the dense tropical vegetation.He had told his colleagues he was feeling unwell after injuring his leg.
When he failed to turn up at the vehicle, his colleagues reported him missing to Mexican authorities who began a manhunt via land and air hours later.
Czajkowski, was found 20 hours later at the same spot where he went missing.
Czajkowski's health is reported as stable presenting with mild dehydration symptoms.
"In general terms one can say he's ok, tired, a little bit dehydrated. He's being checked at the clinic and we are told he's doing ok. He's taken a bath and is now under observation. We hope it continues that way," said Civil Protection Representative, Miguel Angel Garcia.
Hospital doctors will keep Czajkowski at a local hospital for further observation during a 24-hour period.
"I don't know what I'm doing here. I don't think I'm ill, the doctors are doing a check-up and after 24 hours I can go (...)"
The archeological site of Edzna is located 61 km (about 38 miles) southeast from the capital Campeche city in Campeche state. Edzna is a Mayan name which means House of the Grimaces.
The city was founded around 600 to 300 BC as a small agricultural community.
