India's nodal probe agency, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) signs a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the country's apex IT body, the National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) to share techniques in controlling cyber crimes.
NEW DELHI, INDIA (NOVEMBER 22, 2010) ANI - The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), India's nodal probe agency signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) to avail technical expertise and guidance in controlling cyber crimes.
The MoU was signed at New Delhi on Monday (November, 22).
It will establish collaboration between law enforcement agencies through Cyber and Hi-Tech Crime Investigation and Training (CHCIT) of the CBI and the information technology (IT) industry through Data Security Council of India (DSCI) and NASSCOM.
"The MoU is aimed at enhancing the capacity of the investigators to deal with and handle the cyber crimes and threats to cyber security in India. The competence of CBI, the premier investigative agency in India will be complemented with India's world acknowledged expertise in Information Technology arena and specifically the experiences of the professionals working in this industry," said Som Mittal, President, National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM).
This vital collaboration aims to share information on security standards and new challenges in managing cyber crime.
"Cyber threat to the economy and services to the country is more of the possibility today than conventional war. This may include hacking and destroying of crucial databases, attacking networks like major infrastructure, power projects, banking, communication, transport and defence. Cyber crime detection and investigation are crucial to both government and private sector. They have vast implications of security as well as economy," said Ashwani Kumar, Director, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The CHCIT centre will serve as a networking platform for this purpose. NASSCOM and DSCI will act as a knowledge partner for the CBI in the cyber security areas.
This memorandum will ensure active involvement in bringing the latest technological developments from across the globe and the industry to the CBI.
With the advent of new technology, the investigation profession is seeing new approaches, solutions and techniques for solving specific and generic problems.
